About PavingCalc

PavingCalc is a free tool that measures your driveway from satellite imagery and turns it into a ballpark asphalt price. It exists because getting a paving number normally means waiting on callbacks and hoping the first quote is fair — with no way to tell. This gives you a starting figure in a minute, and the plain-English guides to understand it, before anyone comes out.

Who runs it

PavingCalc is built and operated by Derek Garvey, who builds websites and lead tools for paving and other trade contractors (derekgarvey.com). It is an independent U.S.-based product, not a paving company. We do not pour asphalt, hold a contractor licence, or bid on your job — which is exactly why the tool can stay neutral about what work you actually need.

What we’re trying to do

Homeowners and property managers walk into paving projects with almost no price reference, so a high quote and a fair quote look the same. Our goal is narrow and practical: give you a defensible range and the context to read a bid against it. If knowing the number talks you out of a bad deal — or into confidently hiring — the tool did its job.

When you ask to be connected to a local pro, we pass the job to a paving contractor in your area. That is how the free tool is paid for. It does not change the estimate you see, and you are never obligated to hire anyone.

How we handle cost figures

The calculator prices from per-square-foot rates supplied by working paving contractors, adjusted for asphalt thickness, base preparation, and finish. The guides quote wider national planning ranges because they cover every market in the country. Neither is a quote — a local crew confirms the real number on site. Straight about limits

A calculator cannot see your soil, drainage, access, or the condition of what is already there — all of which move the price. We label estimates as ballpark ranges everywhere they appear and always point you to itemized local bids. See the full disclaimer.
